$25-45/hr depending on the coach's experience and sport. That's about half what traditional private coaches charge ($60-150/hr). No subscriptions, no commitments — pay only for the lessons you book.
What sports do you offer?
Basketball, soccer, tennis, baseball, softball, swimming, volleyball, football (flag + tackle), track & field, lacrosse, golf, and more. If there's a student athlete who plays it, we can match you.
Can I watch the lesson?
Absolutely. Parents are encouraged to stay and watch every session. There is never any pressure for your child to be alone with a coach.
What ages can participate?
Kids ages 5-16 can take lessons. Our coaches are high school students (ages 15-18) and college athletes (ages 18-23).
How do I pay?
Secure in-app payment after each session. No cash exchanges, no subscriptions, no long-term commitments. Cancel anytime.
What if I don't like the coach?
We'll reassign a new coach immediately, no questions asked. If your first session doesn't meet expectations, it's on us.
Can my child try multiple sports?
Yes! Many families use SportsLessons to let their kids explore different sports affordably before committing to one. At $25-45/hr, you can try basketball one week and soccer the next.
My kid wants to make the school team. Can a coach help with that?
Absolutely. Many of our coaches are current varsity or college athletes who've been through tryouts themselves. They know what coaches look for and can work on the specific skills your child needs to make the cut.
How do I know the coach is actually good at teaching?
Every session gets a parent review. You can see ratings and feedback from other families before booking. Research shows kids learn best from near-peer role models — student athletes are naturally effective teachers because they recently learned the same skills themselves.
For Coaches
How much can I earn?
$25-45/hr depending on your experience, sport, and location. At 5 hours per week, that's $500-900/month — 2-3x what you'd earn at typical teen jobs like fast food or retail.
What are the requirements?
You must be a current high school (15+) or college student athlete, pass a criminal background check, verify your school enrollment, provide a government ID, and have reliable transportation to sessions.
Do I need coaching experience?
No formal coaching experience required. If you play the sport competitively, you have the skills to teach younger kids the fundamentals. We provide coaching tips and best practices to help you get started.
How do I set my schedule?
You choose when you're available — before practice, after school, weekends, summers. Families book around your availability. You're never committed to hours that don't work for you.
What sports can I coach?
Any sport you actively play or have played competitively. Most coaches stick to their primary sport, but you can list multiple if you're a multi-sport athlete.
How do I get paid?
Secure in-app payment after each session. Funds are deposited directly to your bank account. No chasing families for cash.
What if a session gets cancelled?
Families must cancel at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations may result in a cancellation fee paid to you for your time.
About Safety
What background checks do you run?
Comprehensive criminal background checks covering national databases, sex offender registries, and county-level records. Plus school enrollment verification and government ID confirmation.
Are coaches ever alone with children?
Parents are always welcome and encouraged to attend sessions. Sessions happen in public places — parks, school fields, community courts. We never require parents to leave.
How does in-app communication work?
All messaging between parents and coaches stays within the app. No private phone numbers or social media accounts are exchanged. This keeps communication transparent and on-record.
What happens if there's a problem?
Report any concern through the app and our team responds within 24 hours. Coaches can be immediately suspended pending investigation. We take every report seriously.
